Watermelon is looking for a new Medior/Senior Backend Developer. New talent to add to our development team. As a Backend Developer, you have key responsibilities; you make sure our platform stays stable and gets continuously optimised. You develop new features, manage integrations with other platforms and work with the team to create an efficient and scalable architecture.

Technology stack

Our backend consists of many different parts that together make up a complex system. The major parts of the tech stack are:
• API (microservice architecture, Golang);
• Chatbot (AI, Tensorflow, Python);
• Legacy API (Monolith, PHP)Our backend services are hosted on Google Cloud.

We use many cloud-native services like Kubernetes Engine, App Engine, Cloud Functions, Cloud SQL, Memorystore, as well as many open source projects like Swagger, Redis, MySQL, Elasticsearch. To ensure our code quality, we valide it using Code Climate. For error reporting we use Sentry. We don’t expect you to have experience with these tools and services listed here. What we find much more important is that you are eager to learn and then the development team will help you where needed⚡️. You will be responsible for:

• Maintaining and improving our backend systems and building new scalable (micro)services from scratch;
• Improving our system architecture by actively contributing ideas and execute them;
• Keeping up with the latest development trends so we can optimise our working methods.

• A university degree (HBO or higher, including foreign degrees) with a major in Computer Science/Informatics
• 3-4 years working experience (minimum)
• Good technical communication skills;
• You greatly value ‘clean code’;
• Knowledge/experience in Go;
• Knowledge/experience of Google Cloud Platform is a plus;
• Knowledge/experience in Laravel is a plus;
• Knowledge/experience in the Scrum work method is a plus;
• You are flexible and able to switch priorities rapidly;
• You are stress-resistant;

• You enter level 1 of the medior position, here you will be classified between € 2,300 and € 3,100 gross per month (based on full-time 40 hours), based on your experience and growth perspective, in level 2 you can continue to grow up to € 3,400 gross per month;
